| Abstract: | This workbook contains a complete analysis of a system of vowel coalescence based on Anntila's (2009) work on variation in Finnish vowel coalescence (FVC). Anntila shows FVC to be conditioned by two factors: position (root or derived) and vowel height. The analysis here uses two sets of stringently-related constraints to derive the implicational generalizations. Two property analyses are given, one with all wide-scope properties and one with narrow-scope properties, showing the common structure of stringency systems. |
