|Title:||The nature of conspiracy: implications for parallel vs. serial derivation|
|Abstract:||The Mohawk stress pattern (1988, 1989) is shown to be best analyzed as a conspiracy on foot bimoraicity, as argued by Ikawa (1995) and Rawlins (2006). And, this analysis is shown to only be compatible with parallel Optimality Theory (Prince & Smolensky, 1993/2004), not Harmonic Serialism (McCarthy 2010). The challenge Mohawk presents for HS is shown to be of a more general type presented by conspiracies.
